Why Choose a Laser Dentist?

Dental technology affords dentists opportunities to make oral health care convenient and comfortable for patients. One of the ways high-tech treatment aids help both dentists and patients is through the use of soft tissue lasers for surgical and non-surgical gum disease therapies.

While it’s still possible to receive quality care with traditional dental tools, soft tissue dental lasers provide an improved patient experience in all of the following ways:

Comfort – When it comes to using surgical procedures to combat the effects of gum disease, patients need to be numbed and small incisions are made in soft tissue either for the purposes of pocket reduction, or tissue grafting. While this is effective, it can also be uncomfortable. Dental lasers are capable of performing the same soft tissue surgeries while cauterizing treatment sites as they go, which greatly reduces post-surgery discomfort.

Quicker Healing – As soft tissue lasers seal and cauterize during the surgical process, they thereby reduce healing time needed after periodontal surgery.  There’s also reduced bleeding, making laser periodontal surgery a cleaner process with a shorter overall turnaround time for the patient.

No Need for Stiches – With dental lasers, there are no traditional incisions, which also means no stiches. This limits follow-up appointments and the time invested in seeing your treatment plan through to completion.

Targeted Removal of Disease-Causing Bacteria – During a root scaling and planing, which is a non-surgical deep cleaning of teeth’s roots to prevent progression of gum disease, it’s important to clean out all plaque, debris, and infection-causing bacteria from gum pockets. If bacteria are not eradicated, there is a chance that gum disease symptoms may flare back up. Lasers provide a precise means of efficiently sterilizing the pocket and removing lingering bacteria, so gums can reattach to teeth.

While treatment for gum disease can be intimidating, the periodontal surgery process becomes far more comfortable with the inclusion of soft tissue dental lasers.
